Life Cycle of a Bean

You have seen plants, flowers, and trees all around, but have you seen them as a seed?

The Life Cycle refers to the different stages of growth. Let’s take a look at the life cycle of a green bean:

There are four stages in the life of a bean plant: The seed is the capsule in which the new plant is housed. Germination is the process in which the baby plant emerges from the seed hull. Leaf growth begins when the seedling grows its true sets of adult leaves (as opposed to the immature initial leaf structures).

Draw the life cycle of the seed you prefer. For those who are writing, label each stage!

Many fruits have seeds. Can you think of fruits that have seeds?

Some other fruits have pits, which is s the part of the fruit that protects the seed until growth time. Can you think of some fruits that have a pit?

Draw them out or make them by pasting small pieces of cut paper!

Do you eat seeds as part of your diet?

Many birds eat seeds!

Experiment

Grow your own seed in a container! Make sure you place your jar where your seed can have some sunlight during the day! Make sure to take care of your bean until you can see the leaves. Check on it every day and water it as needed.

For children working on Sound Game/I Spy

Let’s hear the beginning sound for the following words:

A - Apple

B - Banana

C - Cantaloupe

D - Date

F - Fig

G - Grape

S – Seed

R – Root

P – Plant

Draw them out! You can make a booklet of fruits.

Can play “I Spy” using a couple of fruits you have at home.

For beginner writers:

Write the name of 5 of more fruits you like eating! You can draw them too and make a booklet. (No need to worry about correct spelling, just hearing the sounds in the word). See my example below:
